This is my reviewed packing List after 3 months of travelling through Latinamerica with a 40L Backpack . I used to wash every 10-14 days.

Underwear & co

  • [ ] 13 underwear
  • [ ] 4 pair of Highrise socks
  • [ ] 4 pair of low rise socks
  • [ ] 2 pair of Trecking socks
  • [ ] 2 bras (1 normal, 1 sport
  • [ ] Something to deal with your menstruation
  • [ ] Bathing suit

T-shirts

  • [ ] 5 normal T-shirts
  • [ ] 1 crop top
  • [ ] 1 Tank top
  • [ ] 1 long sleeve first layer T-Shirt
  • [ ] 1 pair of pyjamas

Pants

  • [ ] First layer thermal leggings(only if you really go to minus temperatures . Otherwise you could use your normal leggings)
  • [ ] Leggings for sport
  • [ ] Sport Shorts (I use those because they are a bit longer then hot pants: makes me feel more safe, culturally better in conservative countries and good for trekking too
  • [ ] 1 pair of Cargo trek pants( I love them because they have so many pockets and they do look relatively fashionable)
  • [ ] 1 pair of line pants or jeans(these one were my city pants. Jeans are a pain because they take forever to dry, and are the opposite of nicely packable)

Pullovers

  • [ ] One polar fleece
  • [ ] One more city like Pullover

Jackets and shoes

  • [ ] Flip flops
  • [ ] Sneakers
  • [ ] Trekking Boots (if you don’t wanna bring them, but still wanna have a combo of sneakers and trekking boots I would recommend the ON trail)
  • [ ] Synthetic down jacket(Real down has better insulation capacity for less weight compared to synthetic, but it’s not gonna warm you anymore once it’s wet. Up to you to decide if you wanna risk it depending on the use you will make from it)
  • [ ] Rain coat

Accessories

  • [ ] 1 small day backpack (I found that for me, 10L was to small. I would recommend you go with something between 15-20L)
  • [ ] Head lamp
  • [ ] Decathlon tent lamp(not necessary but nice)
  • [ ] Deck of cards
  • [ ] Earplugs
  • [ ] Earpods
  • [ ] Inflatable neck pillow(for the long bus rides)
  • [ ] Eye mask
  • [ ] Cutlery(fork, knife and spoon) (Those one’s are really useful for when your grabbing food on the go, and makes you reduce your plastic consumption a lot)
  • [ ] International current adapter
  • [ ] multiprise from your home country
  • [ ] Power with at least 10.000mA
  • [ ] One BPA bottle
  • [ ] A Tupperware if you plan to cook
  • [ ] 1-2 very foldable towels(they start stinking SO fast)
  • [ ] Beanie
  • [ ] Gloves
  • [ ] Duff scarf
  • [ ] Sun hat
  • [ ] Sunscreen(usually so expensive abroad!)
  • [ ] Lipstick with sun protection(above 3.000m your lips get sunburned so fast!)
  • [ ] Ziploc bags (I ended up using them so much! Especially when trekking in very wet conditions, but also for my bathing suits, my medicine or my super important administrative things)
  • [ ] Dirty laundry bag
  • [ ] Tote bag for grocery shopping or for situations where you’ll just need a bag more
  • [ ] Plastic bag to store your dirty shoes

Administrative

I would recommend you keep all of this in a ziploc bag so it can’t get wet

  • [ ] Passport
  • [ ] Vaccination pass
  • [ ] 2 travel bank cards(ideally one credit and one debit card. At least one should be able to withdraw money and do payments abroad without your bank charging you for it. Make sure to warn your bank of where your traveling so your card doesn’t get blocked. More details in my travel payment guide!)
  • [ ] Proof of travel (health) insurance
  • [ ] Get familiar with western Union, worldremit and wise for the worst case scenario where your two bank cards don’t work and you find yourself abroad without money
  • [ ] Driving license
  • [ ] Make sure you have a scan of your Passport, vaccination pass, covid and yellow fever vaccination, health travel insurance etc. in your cloud that you could access if any of these documents get stolen. Physical copies might also be a great idea
  • [ ] Identity pictures(some countries ask it for visa on arrival)
  • [ ] Return flights(some countries might ask for it. If you don’t wanna book it know you could also use the website onward flight)

Bathroom necessary

If you plan to fly only with hand luggage, your liquid items should not be in more then 100mL packages

  • [ ] Tooth brush
  • [ ] Tooth paste
  • [ ] Hair brush
  • [ ] A few extra hair bands
  • [ ] Shampoo(can strongly recommend solid shampoo with matador soap cases)
  • [ ] Soap(same here)
  • [ ] Deodorant(I use a solid one from respire that has been working well. Otherwise take care that it doesn’t go over 100mL)
  • [ ] Jewelry(try to find fantasy jewelry you enjoy wearing but that doesn’t look too fancy)
  • [ ] Hydrating face cream(also good when you get sunburned)

First aid kit

  • [ ] Immodium(to stop diarrhea)
  • [ ] Vomex(to stop vomiting)
  • [ ] Electrolyte solution(for when the Immodium is just not helping anymore and you want to prevent drying out)
  • [ ] Ibuprofen(pain killers)
  • [ ] Bandages
  • [ ] Personal medication
